AUSTIN CITY LIMITS 9/26-9/29

by zander nation

Austin perennially holds its place amongst the indie rock league leaders. Every September, Austin City Limits serves as the city’s festival followup to South by Southwest and brings droves of music addicts from around the globe. The 2008 lineup may yield somewhat to years past, but the knock is slight with acts such as Beck, David Byrne, The Black Keys, Yeasayer, Vampire Weekend, and Hot Chip set to share the spotlight. This weekend QC sends the Zander duo (Alex & Eliza) to cover the madness, including a Gnarls Barkley taping for the ACL concert series which airs on PBS.

E-PRO BY BECK:

In addition to the festival acts and prowling Austin’s famed 6th St., this year’s ACL offers the usual side attractions and after parties. A Music Lounge presented by Blender will play host to sponsored happy hours and a “Rock the Vote” bash on Saturday night featuring Tegan and Sara, Manu Chao, White Denim, and Nicole Atkins among others. We’ll keep you up to date on the random strangers we meet since everyone says hello in Austin.

SO GLAD TO SEE YOU BY HOT CHIP:

While we strive to maintain our reputation as consumate professionals amidst debaucherous surroundings, we’ll be checking in daily with the QC readership. We’ll let you know who tore it up and who played like they were nursing hangovers minced with depression. We’ve also lined up a myriad of artist interviews ranging from The Heartless Bastards to Galactic and Band of Heathens, which we’ll report from the fest. And finally we’ll give you the rundown on festival alcohol prices and random substance availibility. The beer deals were really solid last year and I’m hoping for more wine sport bottles which were a personal favorite for my skillful calimocho making.

CAPE COD KWASSA KWASSA BY VAMPIRE WEEKEND:

Drop comments if you have any words of encouragement or random questions you want answered. I’m going to try and limit my list of mistakes to under six. Bye for now and we’ll catch up from Austin.
