ACL Brings Something to the Party

Austin City Limits is set for October 2-4. The headliners seem to be a little stale with Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Beastie Boys, and Kings of Leon. While Pearl Jam is pretty exclusive, the Dave Matthews Band has been touring extensively and the other two are playing in a couple of fests. Oh well, there are some cool bands on the lineup. Indie faves !!!, The Dead Weather, Sonic Youth, Grizzly Bear, The Walkmen, Arctic Monkeys, Suckers and band of the moment Phoenix are all accounted for. Full lineup and ticket info can be found at aclfestival.com.

Siren Festival Sings Again at Coney Island

Say what you will about the crowd, heat, sound, chatters, hipsters, press/VIP sections hogging up the best sightlines, this is a FREE festival. I mean, c’mon. The Ninth Annual Village Voice Siren Festival is set to go down July 19th. All these bands have been getting blog approval headliner Built to Spill will be joined by The Ravonettes, Frightened Rabbit, Grand Duchy (ft. Francis Black of the Pixies), Monotonix, and Micachu and the Shapes. More are going to be announced. Now let the grumbling commence, but I know I’ll see you there.

Hot Chip Have Fun Support Crisis

Hot Chip, as part of the Crisis Hidden Gig campaign over in the UK has released a re-worked version of their song “Over and Over”. This time it features people who have dealt with homelessness and used the support provided by Crisis to get their lives back together. The Pains of Being Pure At Heat Deal With “Young Adult Friction”

In Bed. Oh man, great joke. But that is not the point. This bubbling wellspring of joy and pop just fits the mood. The video is cute, understated, and charming. Play along and notice some cameos of some books you may or may not be familiar with.

The Features Are Playing New York City

Allow me to indulge. Ever hear a band you instantly liked, hit all the right notes, but just a little too late? That’s what I thought when I discovered The Features. I’ve liked them for a long time, but even then, it was just too late. Some unfortunate dealings with major record labels, family lives, etc all got in the way of me ever getting the chance to see them. Well, it just happens to be my lucky day. The Features are playing two shows in New York City! That’s right; you can catch them at Pianos on May 14th and Union Hall on May 17th. So yeah, they play some well crafted pop rock with some Southern thump. I’m so happy.
..

Other New Shows of Note:

Eagles of Death Metal are playing Webster Hall August 6th. Tickets are on sale Friday.

Sonic Youth are hitting the United Palace Theatre on July 3rd. Catch these legends when tickets go on sale Friday.

I have been in love with the new Handsome Furs CD, Face Control. If you did not see them when they played Mercury Lounge, well you can see them at the Bowery Ballroom on July 7th. Once again, grab your tickets Friday.
