INDIE NEWS REEL: 5/28

by charles poladian

Ah, Memorial Day is gone. A little too humid for my tastes, but what can you do. It did not rain and I hit plenty of BBQ’s. With that being said, there tends to be a bit of a lull. Maybe it’s the food; maybe it’s the people forgetting to get back to their lives, either way things take some time to pick up. The Reel tries not to disappoint, and luckily there are some goods to be found.

Artist: The Dead Weather
Song: Treat Me Like Your Mother
Artist: Sebastian Tellier
Song: Kilometer (A-Trak Dub Mix)
Artist: Simian Mobile Disco
Song: Audacity of Huge (feat. Chris Keating)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Promise “Heads Will Roll”

Even dancier and more disco/synth orientated than “Zero”, “Heads Will Roll” does not break too much ground in terms of production. The song is tight, with a great flow and is something that would be expected from the best of the disco/electro scene. The band plays a bit of the too cool subdued role. The star is that dancing werewolf dancer cutting a rug. This video is not for the faint of heart, things get gory…err make that confetti.

The Charlatans UK Announce Tour and Album Details

The Charlatans UK tend to get lost in the shuffle of all the UK bands that make it over here, getting lost when compared to The Stone Roses or Oasis. Already out in the UK with some great reviews; get the chance to see the band this fall. The band will cross all over America.

Even More Major Lazer, Now with Even More Andy Milonakis

Not going to lie, this video did me in. I needed to check myself for a moment, but yeah this video is happening. Hilarity is an understatement. Imagine Andy Milonakis mouthing the lyrics, dressed as a zombie running around Chicago. Strange enough but delve into the beautifully simple lyrics like “Imma zombie gonna eat your brains” or “Me a zombie from Kentucky” or “I like vanilla brains and chocolate brains, tastes like ice cream, I had a nice dream”. Stunning.

Scarlet Johansson and Pete Yorn Decide to Break Up

Remember when Scarjo released her collection of Tom Waits covers? It piqued interest and was soon taken down a peg or two by the overzealous Internet and was considered a one-off deal. Well, as it turns out she, like Hollywood is these days, she’s in a prequel. That’s right, just like Terminator: Salvation. Pete Yorn and Scarjo form this duet, and the idea behind the album was inspired by Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot’s collaboration began in a dream. The nine tracks, including eight original Yorn tracks and a cover of Chris Bell’s “I Am the Cosmos” are set to be released Sept. 9. You can listen to the song “Realtor” at the official site.
