A CONCERT A DAY FOR THE REST OF THE MONTH

by cheryl santa maria

Who needs CMJ? Check out all of the other great shows that are going on in the month of October:

October 20 / 21: If you can teleport to Toronto, get yourself to Massey Hall tonight because Metric is coming to town and, as an added bonus, they’re going to be teaming up with The Stills. Two great bands in one night? Sounds good to me. Apologies to my friends in the States – this is a Canadian tour. If you’re looking to plan a road trip (the tour runs until early November) you can view the rest of the dates on my personal blog.

Artist: Metric
Song: Stadium Love

October 22: Get out your chain wallets and steel-toed boots. Type O Negative is playing at the Nokia Theatre Times Square.

October 23: Sorry, but your calendar is already full on the 23rd. You’re going to Quiet Color’s Anti CMJ Show  at the Market Hotel, right? For the low cost of $7.00, you’ll be able to take in performances from Surfer Blood, Grandchildren, UUVVWWZZ, French Miami and Sleigh Bells. Unfortunately, this QC reporter won’t be able to attend the big to-do, as I’m stuck up in the Great White North.  Have five drinks for me, ok?

October 24: David Gray will be at the WaMu Theatre. Pick up tickets here.

October 25: Music legend Van Morrison will be playing at Madison Square Garden. This one’s pricey though – tix are selling for about $90.

October 26: Pterodactyl will be playing with The Sundelles, Surfer Blood and Small Black at Death By Audio in Brooklyn.

October 27: Florence and the Machine will be at the Bowery Ballroom.  Details here.

October 28: Hawksley Workman is awesome, so you should go and see him at the New York City Winery.

Remember Nada Surf? If not, you probably remember this song. They’re going to be teaming up with They Might be Giants for a show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on the same night.

October 29: Snoop Dogg is in town. At Nokia Theatre Times Square. Enough said.

October 30: Indie pop darlings Tegan and Sarah are going to be at Town Hall on October 30. If you can’t make it to the show, fear not – they’re playing another one on the 31st.

October 31: Thievery Corporation is going to be teaming up with Ocote Soul Sounds for a Halloween show at Terminal 5. If Jazz/Reggae/lounge fusion isn’t your thing, The Get up Kids will be putting on a show at Irving Plaza, Weezer is going to be at Hammerstein Ballroom and The Misfits will be playing at BB Kings Blues Club.
