I saw a young band called Wild Nothing perform at Monster Island Basement a few weeks ago, opening for So Cow and Frankie and the Outs. It’s the bedroom-pop project of 21-year -ld Virginian Jack Tatum. A quick spin through the Wild Nothing myspace player, or a listen to single “Summer Holiday” below, should convince you of his songwriting chops. Luckily, Jack’s put together a stellar band to bring to life these haunting tunes, adding a sense of urgency and energy that brings out the more Talking Heads-like elements of his songwriting.

Jack’s weaving melodies and soaring, ethereal vocals also bring to mind current BK favs Beach Fossils. Stellar performances, like the one I saw at Monster Island, and a steady stream of great songwriting should ensure that we’ll be hearing more from them in the near future.
The “Summer Holiday” 7″ is out now on Captured Tracks
